The developers have been discussing a better way of identifying glibc
differences in packages, but it will be a while before we likely see
anything change within existing packages as we have some higher
priority things that are being worked on presently. Consider how many
packages there are presently and the amount of time needed to change
even one line in each one and make the "new" version available.

The rule of thumb is virtually every readily available package is for
glibc 2.0 (Bering, Dachstein, LRP, etc....). David has re-compiled the
newest Oxygen for glibc-2.1 and re-compiled many (if not all) of his
packages for glibc-2.1. There are non-official glibc-2.1 versions of
Bering and Dachstein out there, but they are only available off-site
at this time. The package repository that Mike is working on will
identify the needed glibc version.
