Mohan, Thanks for your detailed instruction. It works great. Just curious, why does the 24M matter for the DOS primary partition?

Try this sequence. (ditto from bubooting.html. I've used it so many times that I now know it well) 1. Download the ide modules from the leaf site http://leaf.sourceforge.com/devel/jnilo/modules. ide-mod.o, ide-disk.o, ide-probe-mod.o (the last one will appear as ide-pr~1.o due to 8.3 limitation of dos) 2. Boot bering from a floppy. 3. Insert the other dos floppy. Mount it using mount -t msdos /dev/fd0 /mnt. 4. copy all the ide*.o modules to /lib/modules. 5. Execute insmod ide-mod;insmod ide-disk;insmod ide-pr~1. The last command will show partitions its recognises. The active partition on the primary master will be /dev/hda1. If it can be mounted now, all is fine. 6. rename ide-pr~1.o to ide-probe-mod.o in /lib/modules. 7. execute mv /lib/modules/ide* /boot/lib/modules 8. edit /boot/etc/modules file and give id-mod, ide-disk,ide-probe-mod in the same sequence in three lines. 9. Back up the complete package using lrcfg >> option b >> option c >> option "d l" >> option c >> hda1<ret><ret> >> option l. Before you do all this, please create an active partition of < 24MB on hard drive and make a syslinux bootable partition. Make sure syslinux.cfg has /dev/hda1 as the boot device. Luis, I mean built-in IDE support in kernel. I tried to follow the procedures but Bering can not find the ide disk. Any clue? Bering has no built-in support for IDE. Follow these instructions: http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/bubooting.html Hope this will help. -----Original Message----- From: Meng, Andrew [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, August 28, 2002 2:17 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [leaf-user] unable to open /dev/hda --bering rc3. Hello, I got "unable to open /dev/hda" when I used fdisk /dev/hda. The harddisk is recognized by BIOS and DOS. I am wondering if Bering rc3 release has buit-in IDE support or I miss something else. LRP 2.9.4 recognized it without any problem Thanks!
