Thanks Brad - that did help. Note, to avoid the message 'Warning: unable to tag this process' when starting /usr/local/bin/iptraf its necessary to create the folder /var/local/iptraf (as per the manual - copy I found was at http://www-jcsu.jesus.cam.ac.uk/doc/iptraf/html/manual.html)
