Mikrotik keeps everything proprietary. Actually if they indeed wrote a closed driver for 802.11a then it breaks GPL.
BTW, the numbers they state for 802.11a are unrealistic. Real throughput which you can expect from 802.11a is around 30 mbps; moreoever, 5 Ghz signal fades faster so on outskirts you actually get lower speeds than with 2.4 Ghz 802.11b.
