Um...I hate to tell you this, but everything *IS* working now, at least according to your logs...
The rest of these errors are due to other DHCP traffic on your cable-modem segment (ie your neighbors DHCP traffic), which you are recieving since DHCP uses broadcast packet to communicate.Maybe you could elaborate a bit on that, I looked into the code of dhclient and as far as I could tell this message is generated when the ip header length field and the actual packet length passed from the driver disagree.
So...you will continue to see the length errors until your ISP upgrades their DHCP server to a non-buggy version.Funny, my Xircom card is working as eth0 whereas the D-Link card is not, there still seems to be a driver issue if just by switching cards the functionality changes. Unless of course the hardware is rotten which I do not believe as I used different D-Link cards with the same result.
Funny too, I never got that error on my desktop gateway running the same set up except for the NIC drivers of course.
John, as Charles pointed out you are up and running, as my gateway has been for quite some time. I still believe there must be a problem on the driver level.
Cheers
Erich
