I was just going to ask the exact same thing about bering. I couldn't
find anything at the sourceforge archive (which has become incredibly
slow for searching in the last month).

In my case I need to increase the MTU to accomodate for vlan tagging,
and I need it consistent between reboots. The info at
http://www.candelatech.com/~greear/vlan/cisco_howto.html has a lot of
patches for various cards, including the tulip and eepro100 drivers
which I use regularly. It is kind of dated so I'm not sure if the most
recent versions of these drivers are already patched. For instance, the
bering_1.0-rc4_modules_2.4.18.tar file contains 2 different version of
both tulip.o and eepro100.o. I'm inclined to think that the larger of
the two is patched, but I couldn't find any definite information on
this. However, I still need to find out how to persistently have the
MTU set above 1500 (1504 is often suggested for vlan tagging).

When I'm done with this whole vlan project I'm going to write a step by
step how-to. I hope it's half as good as anything Guitarlynn or Jacques
Nilo have written ;).
