Thanks Brad,

I've been pulling my hair out all day trying to get this to work. This is a virtual machine which I can compile the bering kernel in, right? Ok, not too far beyond my capabilities yet. However, I'm getting tons of errors and I'm only on step 3. Do I really need to go through all this just to change the mtu on a NIC driver? There surely must be someone out there who was done this already. There's tons of information and links to the patches so there must be a demand. Has nobody ever come across an eepro100 or tulip driver compiled with the mtu>1500 patches?

First,

Has anyone compiled these drivers with a mtu > 1500 for the purposes of 802.1q vlan tagging? If you have, can you provide a link to where it is available, please? If no one has a compiled driver, but has the capability and know-how to create them, here's the most recent url (that I could find) for the patches: http://www.candelatech.com/~greear/vlan/cisco_howto.html. The tulip and eepro patches are half way down.

Jacques has made this pretty easy with his developer's guide and
UML filesystem with all the goodies:

http://leaf.sourceforge.net/article.php?sid=62

If you follow the directions and just apply the driver patches
before you compile the modules, you should be good to go.
