What are the advantages/disadvantages of using multiple IP's on an interface vs. separate NIC's (other than not enough slots) where possible?
I have a working LEAF, two interfaces Bering 1.1 with Shorewall setup, sitting behind a Prestige ADSL modem/router (192.168.1.1) supplied by ISP Covad, via SBC DSL (DHCP). (modem/router will be relocated behind LEAF after telco line is relocated) eth0 [External] DSL via (DHCP) eth1 [Internal] 192.168.2.254 with Nicholas Wong's Printer Server setup [Ricoh 1035 Digital Printer/Copier] serving 3 PC's. C. I now need to add 2 other separate organizations that reside within the building, plus visitors to this setup. 1. Each organization is separate (no IntraZone Traffic wanted) 2. Each organization needs Internet access and Print Server access (currently eth1). 3. Each organization will have no more than 1-3 PC's (various Win 98, Win XP, and MAC ) with light Internet traffic. 4. Because of building constraints, A wireless router [Netgear MR814] will be used to serve organizations 2,3, & visitors. (If necessary, I can add 5 public address to this setup for $10 a month, instead of using private IP's) Desired setup 1. eth0 -net- [External-Wired] =DSL (DHCP) 2. eth1 -loc- [Internal-Wired] = Org#1 3. eth? -??- [Internal-Wireless] Org#2 4. eth? -??- [Internal-Wireless] Org#3 5. eth? -??- [Internal-Wireless] (DHCP) (Visitors) Not sure how (best way) to add in the other organizations to accomplish this setup and still keep it simple? Future expansion would include: email server and remote access Thanks for any suggestions? __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Protect your identity with Yahoo!
