Although i am using Bering 1.2 and not uclibc i think that this is more a problem of bad rf connections than software. I have been able to get up to 6 Mbits/sec throughput at 5Km away using Bering 1.2 and hostap 0.0.4 (with a 24db grid antenna) Unfortunatelly pinging a wlan interface does not reveal much, only that the interface is up and running, not its throughput To see how it responds to traffic you need to ping with large packets (> 16k) and also use some kind of throughput measuring software like iptraf or ntop. Don't forget that wi-fi is half-duplex so the actual throughput is "devided" between send and receive among the clients of the AP. Also make sure that the two wlans are spaced at least 4 channels appart so that they don't interfear to each other A good choice of channels is usually 1-6-11 (for 3 interfaces) Check also with netstumbler or kismet the amount of interfearnce from "neighbourhood" wi-fi's,and especially for 802.11g,as although much faster, they tend to create *A LOT* more noise and interfearence.
