I'm not a Vonage user, but I have been looking into VoIP options recently. The main concern with all of them is that most actual implementations of SIP demand the use of large numbers of ports. Vonage, for example, on its port-forwarding page (http://www.vonage.com/installation_port_forwarding.php), lists these ports as needed by its phone --

    * 5060  5061 (UDP)
    * 53  53 (UDP)
    * 69  69 (UDP)
    * 10000  20000 (UDP)

At 10000 UDP ports, Vonage isn't the most demanding ... I've seen reports of a Cisco VoIP phone that requires forwarding of 32000 UDP ports.

Note, though, the need for 53-UDP -- the DNS port. That might present a problem, depending on the details of your setup. And 69 is tftp, which I believe is usually considered a security risk ... though I no longer recall the details behind this vague memory.

The forwarding approach applies only if you run the Vonage phone behind the router. If you run it before the router, the approach Vonage seems to prefer, you won't have to forward the ports ... but you'll need to see what Vonage passes on to the router for other uses. And Vonage uses this positioning to impose some QoS effects on traffic (probably that benefit voice to the detriment of data).

This is all theory and speculation, though. I'd be interested to hear from anyone actually using Vonage (or another VoIP service, e.g., FWD) with LEAF.
