I have been asked to write an article about LEAF-Bering. Parts of the
article will probably include a brief history of the software, it's
features, target applications, installation/configuration of the latest
version, and throughput testing. I can probably dig most of that up myself,
and I can do the installation and some testing in at least 2 environments.
However, I'm no network expert, but I feel like throughput testing will be a
little misleading because the bottleneck is going to have more to do with
hardware than software. But maybe I'm wrong.

I've been a LEAF-Bering user for at least a couple of years now, so I'm
fairly familiar with it, but since firewalls to me are mostly a set it and
forget it kinda thing, I've been out of the loop lately. Anyway, what I'm
asking for here is some pointers (facts, figures, web links or even just
opinions) on LEAF-Bering, specifically:

1. What sort of throughput, for instance, could LEAF-Bering theoretically
provide on a Pentium 100 system with edo ram and with 10/100 nics, cables,
and switch, assuming that all other systems connected have unlimited speed?

2. How does the throughput of a LEAF-Bering system running on hardware X
compare to Cisco switch X?

3. How does LEAF-Bering compare, overall, to a Cisco switch?

4. What hardware do you run LEAF-Bering on, and what sort of performance do
you get from it?

Finally, I'd like to ask that if any of the leading developers would like me
to make sure that certain points are made, please let me know. The last
thing I want to do is write a glowing review and forget to mention something
that is near and dear to those who have worked so hard to provide this
incredible software.

Thanks,
Jim Hubbard
