Hi, all. I've recently got BuC-2.2 running on a new system for testing - great setup, everyone; nice work - and I'm now trying to get it to "play nice" with my Prism2 DWL-520E wireless PCI card. To do so, I've I've actually had success getting the card up and running by using the following procedure:
1. load hostap, hostap_crypt_wep, hostap_pci (in that order)...this should bring up both a wifi0 and wlan0 device 2. load PRI and STA firmware onto the card, using prism2_srec. For some reason, the "hostap-utils" script in /etc/network/if-pre-up.d isn't doing this all by itself, which I thought it would. Anyway, firmware loads well manually. 3. start (or restart) the hostapd daemon (hostap -B /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf). At this point, if I ifdown/ifup the wlan0 interface, I get an additional "wlan0ap" device when I run "ip addr show", which seems like a good thing. In addition, a test laptop client running Windows2000 can see the signal when looking at the right channel, with the right ESSID, etc. The only problem so far is that I can't seem to get an actual connection, so I'm still working on that. My questions are the following: 1. I'm currently loading hostapd.lrp and hostapu.lrp. It doesn't look like I need hostapu, since that only does PCMCIA stuff. Do I also need libm, wireless, and wireutil? I loaded those at one point, and they seemed to screw stuff up. Sorry for the vagueness. 2. How can I make sure that "hostap-utils" is running to inject firmware onto the Prism card? I guess I'm asking, "when does the if-pre-up.d directory get parsed and run? Thanks for all your help so far with my LEAF projects. I've been running another BuC-2.0-rc1 router (no wireless) for ages, and it's flawless. Thanks especially to Eric Spakman for his help with some prickly wireless problems in the past. -joe. -- ___________________________________________________________ Sign-up for Ads Free at Mail.com http://promo.mail.com/adsfreejump.htm ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by BEA Weblogic Workshop FREE Java Enterprise J2EE developer tools!
