sorry for taking so long to reply. Turns out there was a bug in lcd4linux which most likely caused the issue you're seeing. I've talked with Michael Reinelt (the developer of lcd4linux) and he sent me a patch that should fix your problem.
I've created an updated package (including that patch) - pleas give it a try, and let me know if that solves your issued.
