I've seen problems like this with lower-end switches that have small MAC
address tables.  You might check the specs on your various switches, as
depending on how you have them "linked", you could be exceeding the per-port
MAC address capacity.

I had some old 3-com switches that would only support 4 or so MACs per port
(IIRC)...if you hooked more than that many devices on one port (via a
cascaded hub or switch), only 4 devices would be visible at the network
layer at any given time.  Of course, which 4 systems you could see varied
depending on recent network activity.  Nasty problem to debug if you don't
know how your switches work.

...or something else entirely could be wrong...you don't provide a lot of
detail to try and troubleshoot.
