I'm not sure what your setup exactly looks like, but take a look at the
"Shorewall Setup Guide" at http://www.shorewall.net/ especially the
"Non-routed" setup part with proxy-arp. I think the situation decribed in
that guide is almost the same as the system you are setting up.
