Just to close out this thread for the list, I compiled the asix.ko
Module and Ivory has been testing that successfully for a while now.
Note that it needs the usbnet.ko Module to be loaded too, but as long as
both .ko files are present in the /lib/modules/ directory they should be
loaded automatically at boot time.

This Module will be included as standard in all future 4.x releases -
i.e. 4.0.1 (the "patch" release for 4.0) and also the 4.1 beta series.
I have also added three other similar modules: kaweth.ko, pegasus.ko and
rtl8150.ko. Together these should cover the vast majority of
USB-to-Ethernet adaptors.
