When ever I recompile the kernel I have found that I need to also replace
all the kernel modules with the modules matching the new kernel compile.
Once I have done this I can compile different flavors of the kernel with
out replacing the modules again.
In your case you are having problems with the ide / cramfs modules that
are in the initrd.lrp
