Sometime last year the UK government set up a process of gathering public input on the policy about leap seconds. A few details are at http://www.sciencewise-erc.org.uk/cms/news_articles/view/55 and http://www.sciencewise-erc.org.uk/cms/leap-seconds/
A nice quote is in http://www.sciencewise-erc.org.uk/cms/leap-seconds-background/ It has been noted that although a significant part of the objection to the proposal is peoplebs expectation of a link between time and the earthbs movement no objective evidence of this has been presented. The ITU study groups consider that this aspect is outside of their tightly defined technical remit. Another agency involved in these studies is Office for Public Management http://www.opm.co.uk/ I hear that meetings are supposed to take place during the next 4 months, but I haven't found any public announcements of them. -- Steve Allen <[email protected]> WGS-84 (GPS) UCO/Lick Observatory--ISB Natural Sciences II, Room 165 Lat +36.99855 1156 High Street Voice: +1 831 459 3046 Lng -122.06015 Santa Cruz, CA 95064 http://www.ucolick.org/~sla/ Hgt +250 m _______________________________________________ LEAPSECS mailing list [email protected] http://six.pairlist.net/mailman/listinfo/leapsecs
