Rescheduled: Leap seconds webinar - 10 March 2015

Register for the re-scheduled Sciencewise webinar on Leap Seconds on Tuesday 10 March, 1:00PM - 2:00PM (GMT). The webinar will explore the lessons learnt from the National Measurement Office's (NMO) dialogue project to inform ministerial decision on how the UK should vote on maintaining the addition of leap seconds. The aim of the dialogue was to determine the importance to the public of a link between time and the Earth’s movement.

The webinar will feature a talk from Paul Broadbent from the NMO on why the organisation commissioned the dialogue, how it sought to engage the public and how the findings from the project will be used to feed into UK policy on this internationally controversial issue.

   

The webinar will cover:

•    The value of the public dialogue

•    How it helped/will help to create a better policy

•    What, if any, surprises the dialogue uncovered

•    How well it was received internally – before, during and after 

•    Any key learnings or top tips

The session is designed to provide guidance to policy makers who are curious about/or actively looking to engage the public on policy issues involving science and technology.

Join Sciencewise on Tuesday 17 March, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM (GMT), for a webinar on the essentials that policy professionals need to know about public dialogue, including an overview of what public dialogue is, what it means in practice and the impact it can deliver. Participants will be able to explore a range of real-life case studies, consider where and when it might be relevant for their own work, and understand the financial support and services that Sciencewise can offer policy makers on public dialogue.
