I found the answer in an earlier thread at http://groups.google.com/group/ledger-cli/browse_thread/thread/312f41276af412ed/833871985e7e9658?#833871985e7e9658. I would specify a negative value in the liability account and a positive value (or unspecified) "Equity:Opening Balances". Derek
