I am having trouble implementing a budget in my ledger file.
Following the example in the manual, I have the following lines at the
start of my ledger.dat:
~ Weekly
Expenses:Household 250.00 EUR
Assets
However, this does not modify the output of the register when I use
the --budget flag. That is,
ledger -Wb 2010-01-24 reg ^Exp
2010/01/22 - 2010/01/28 Expenses:Cash 373.63 EUR
373.63 EUR
Expenses:Clothing 50.88 EUR
424.51 EUR
Expenses:Dining 12.80 EUR
437.31 EUR
Expenses:Gifts 152.98 EUR
128.97 USD
590.29 EUR
128.97 USD
Expenses:Household 198.91 EUR
789.20 EUR
128.97 USD
Expenses:Other 4.00 EUR
793.20 EUR
128.97 USD
Ex:Transportation 471.07 EUR
1264.27 EUR
128.97 USD
and
ledger --budget -Wb 2010-01-24 reg ^Exp
2010/01/22 - 2010/01/27 Expenses:Household 198.91 EUR
198.91 EUR
My expectation is that the second command should show -51.09 EUR,
indicating my total expense vs. budget. If I create a "clean"
ledger.dat with a budget line and a single transaction, I get the
expected output.
So something is wrong with my ledger.dat, but I can't figure out
what. Any tips?
Thanks,
Bill
