I haven't used lot-tags, and I haven't traced them out through the source to document them yet, so I may be off here. However, I think the --lot-tags option only works if you have assigned meta tags to the postings. From a Journal syntax perspective, you have three separate commodities GBP, GBP (test), and GBP (abc). I can't find anywhere in the source that would parse the parenthesis differently while pulling out the commodity.
Hopefully John will weigh in here and I will put it in the docs.
