Yes, that's how I currently implement this in GNUCash. Unfortunately, I 
have more than one brokerage accounts so that I could take advantage of the 
least expensive transactions of each.

The other thing is that the account structure is fixed. You can't "view" it 
from different perspectives such as the markets that those companies work 
on or any other trait used for a diversification strategy.
