You may want to try Homebrew instead (http://mxcl.github.com/homebrew/), which is a package manager for OS X. It is just a matter of typing: brew install ledger --HEAD (without --HEAD it installs 2.6). You may get rid of what has been installed with 'brew uninstall' ('brew list' will show you what is installed). The above command does not install a man page for ledger, however.
