Thanks for your response.

I did a "make install" and see the following files installed in my prefix 
location (/opt/local)

/opt/local
          /bin/ledger
          /include/ledger/<a bunch of header files>
          /lib/libledger.a 
          /share
                /doc
                /man

I tried including /opt/local/lib/ into PYTHON_PATH, but couldn't do an 'import 
ledger' in python

Does that look right?
