Nothing automatic. I'm just in the habit of saving my journal file every time I add a new transaction (with Emacs ledger-mode, thanks for all your work there Craig!). I usually have a terminal window open with watchledger running so I immediately see the updated balance of each account. Also, if I made a balancing error entering the transaction I see that immediately so I can fix it right away.
