When using commands like register, is there any way to refer to the
original payee when ; Payee:xyz is specified in the transaction?

Here's an example:
2014-1-1 Paycheck from workplace1
   Income:Gross -$100
   Assets:Bank $90
   Expenses:Taxes:Federal $10 ; Payee: tax witholding

2014-1-20 Paycheck from workplace2
   Income:Gross -$50
   Assets:Bank $45
   Expenses:Taxes:Federal $5 ; Payee: tax witholding

In this scenario, I'd like to produce a report for Expenses:Taxes:Federal
separately for each workplace. But I'm unable to use --limit or --display
with a payee predicate of "workplace1" and "tax witholding", for example. A
work-around would be to instead set the payee to "; Payee: tax witholding
workplace1", but I'd much rather not do this for reasons having to do with
other parts of my setup.

Is this possible? If not, are there other solutions?
