The best way is the most explicit:
~ Monthly
Expenses:Home:Rent $765.00
Expenses:Food:Groceries $300.00
Expenses:Food $200.00
Expenses:Misc $900.00
Assets
Then just look for Expenses:Misc.
There was a long discussion here some time ago about whether to allow
balances in accounts that had children. ledger allows it, but my
opinion was that it would hold you back from questions exactly like
what you just asked.
