This is how I've implemented cash flow reports in my TextMate's Legder 
bundle (https://github.com/lifepillar/Ledger.tmbundle):

   ledger balance Cash --collapse --dc --related

This has served me well, because it matches the way my bank summarizes 
my transactions. But I'm no expert and I'm curious, too, whether there 
are better ways.
