The manual is clearer on this: Limit the processing to transactions before @var{DATE}. Specify the end @var{DATE} for a transaction to be considered in the report. All transactions on or after this date are ignored. Constrain the report so that transactions on or after @var{DATE} are not considered. (There are 3 definitions for --end!)
