Steve, I am in the same boat as you. In the real estate business and trying to automate a lot of the work my bookkeeper does. My bookkeeper insists on using Quickbooks which I don’t understand very well and it’s made it difficult to understand whats going on in our businesses.
I’ve been trying to transition to ledger but I just don’t have the time to enter all the transaction myself (there are many) and I can’t find a bookkeeper that’s willing to record everything in plain text. I wrote a little python script that allows me to send a picture of a bill or receipt to Amazon Mechanical Turk for processing and recording to Ledger but it will still require some manual data entry. The project is rough and is not ready for production but I would be happy to share the code with you and would appreciate contributions. Does anyone have any referrals for bookkeepers?
