Hi all
Let's say I have a budget, i.e. a list of expenses that I will probably
have in a typical year. Also I know how much I will probably make in terms
of income in a good year.
~ Monthly
Expenses:Child Care $ 100.00
Expenses:Food $ 500.00
Assets:Checkings
~ quarterly
Expenses:Mortgage $ 1000.00
Assets:Checkings
~ every 6 months
Expenses:Insurance:Health $ 2000.00
Assets:Checkings
~ Yearly
Expenses:Commute $ 7500.00
Expenses:Taxes $ 14000.00
Assets:Checkings
~ Yearly
Assets:Checkings $ 100000.00
Income:Salary
Now suppose I would like to know how much money I'll have at the end of the
year, or in other words how much can I spend on say a new couch?
According to the documentation I should be able to do this with forecasting
ledger --file budget.dat --forecast "d<[2019]" balance ^assets ^expenses
^income
This sort of works, however it just calculates how much I'll have at the
end of this year:
$ 66700.00 Assets:Checkings
$ 33300.00 Expenses
$ 800.00 Child Care
$ 7500.00 Commute
$ 4000.00 Food
$ 4000.00 Insurance:Health
$ 3000.00 Mortgage
$ 14000.00 Taxes
$ -100000.00 Income:Salary
--------------------

It takes the yearly expenses alright but only calculates child care 8 times
for example. How can I get all expenses and income for one year and see how
much is going to be in my checkings account at the end of a typical year?
P.S. I also tried
ledger --file budget.dat --forecast "d<[2019-5-1]" balance ^assets
^expenses ^income
That worked for the monthly expenses. It did take the child care 12 times,
however it also took twice my yearly salary and summed it up. Not what I
had in mind:
$ 140800.00 Assets:Checkings
$ 59200.00 Expenses
$ 1200.00 Child Care
$ 15000.00 Commute
$ 6000.00 Food
$ 4000.00 Insurance:Health
$ 5000.00 Mortgage
$ 28000.00 Taxes
$ -200000.00 Income:Salary
--------------------

Any ideas?
Thanks
Christian
