I'm no expert on Ledger but I do think I can help you.
Read the manual carefully!!! I have so far found almost every question
I had answered in the manual.
I have at times asked specific questions here and then had someone
give suggestions, often multiple suggestions and when I went looking -
- - yes that too was in the manual.

So if you read the manual and try what is suggested with your data and
you find there is something that you don't understand or doesn't work
the way you're thinking it might - - - well you will find persons here
quite ready to assist.
I would think you need to try something first.

So - - - fire up you plain text editor (lots and lots of options - - -
think emacs or vi or (I've run into at least 15 more for linux)).
Enter some data - - - format is suggested in the manual.
Open your terminal and type " ledger bal -f
the/location/of/the/saved/data/file " and then see what happens.
If you have errors in your input you will have to correct those first.
If your entries are good - - - well you will see a list of accounts
and their balances.
Then you know that everything is good.

Its *that* easy!

Regards

Dee
