I don't integrate this with ledger (yet) but I use tiny scanner

to scan all sorts of documents, including receipts. For receipts I name the
file with date, short description and amount and then share the file to
Google drive, e.g. "2020-05-07 trader joe; groceries $30.pdf"

It wouldn't take much to then have a little script that parsed the file
name to create a transaction. That wouldn't give you each item on the
receipt, if that is what you want, but it would give the total amount as
per your example.

You could also do this with the phone camera and just name the photo in a
similar fashion.
