Hi All,

Just a quick (and probably silly) question.

Have any firm decisions been made about how authentication is going to
be handled in 1.3? I ask in light of the recent discussions about CRM
and the roadmap. A small idea is beginning to germinate in my head,
but my time is very much limited at the moment so I don't know whether
it will go anywhere.

Will it be possible (for me) to write an authentication module to
allow LSMB to authenticate against an external app? I've been looking
at trunk, and I can see that the current authentication scheme
requires a valid database user, and these credentials are then used to
log in to the database itself. I also note that the role-based
security is built on postgres roles, and I'm wondering if the future
of LSMB is going to require user accounts on the database itself. If
so, I guess I would need to use external authentication at the
database level instead of at the app level.

Or is authentication still to be decided upon, and I should just go
away and come back in a few months? (This would be a perfectly
acceptable answer to me - I'm not doing anything which is
time-critical or resource-hungry, just a bit of speculative
programming).

Richard
