Hi Chris,
Sorry for the very late response.
I wasn't able to reply by email straight away (I was mobile at the
time) but I did make the following comments in IRC on the 15 July
==========
-
- in general I have to agree with Erik.
- perhaps we need to officially "freeze" old code for all but critical bug fixes. With those requiring direct
involvement of Chris or Erik before a PR is submitted.
- new features or non critical bug fixes in old code should be handled by implementing a "newcode" replacement for a single screen.
- That screen should (only if necessary) support being called from and calling old code.
- it should require a newcode call interface
- alternatively we provide a generic newcode dispatcher to interface (
bi directional) with old code.
- where possible a replacement screen should be a complete menu entry replacement (possibly multiple screens) rather than a sub screen that requires an old code (path) modification to call it
- prior to the above commencing we should assess the old code for any procedures that should be moved into stored procedures and triggers in the db and implement those for new code to use.
- implementing those stored procedures etc should not compromise (nor require modification to) old code
