On a freshly created virtual Fedora 16 i686 (from the LiveCD) I now get 
a clean install with perl-config-std and 1.3.10-1 - thanks!  I will now 
try the same thing again on my new F16 x86_64 server and see how that 
goes before I start using this latest version for the accounts of a new 
company I need to set up.
