If you are interested in contributing to development, 1.4 is clearly the
way to go. It is more feature-rich, more flexible, and development is
easier. If you want something stable and predictable, I think it's a
little soon. Additionally the one area where there has been accounting
re-engineering has been to replace relatively untestable COGS code with
COGS code that could be (and in fact is) extensively unit tested. I think
the COGS code in 1.4 is the most heavily unit tested portion of the
software with tax forms being in second place.
