Following up my previous post about difficulties with the postgres user,
there were also other problems. As stated, after logging on as an
administrator, I have successfully downloaded and installed the Windows
builds of Strawberry Perl 5.16.2.1, Apache 2.2.22, and PostgreSQL 9.2 (from
EnterpriseDB) to
C:\Program_Files\Strawberry\
C:\Program_Files\Apache\
C:\Program_Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\
The PostgreSQL installer advised that there were non-fatal errors during
installation. The install-postgresql.log file (see Dropbox URI) contained
a number of warnings:
*Many registry entry errors of this form reported --*
Could not find registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\PostgreSQL\Installations\postgresql-9.2 Data
Directory. Setting variable iDataDirectory to empty value
*Do I need to do anything about these?*
*Correct method of starting PostgreSQL --*
"C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\bin\postgres" -D "C:/Program
Files/PostgreSQL/9.2/data"
or
"C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\9.2\bin\pg_ctl" -D "C:/Program
Files/PostgreSQL/9.2/data" -l logfile start
*What method should I use? Or will the Windows services (daemons) manager
do this automatically on boot?*
*Script error --*
Failed to install the 'adminpack' module in the 'postgres' database
loadmodules.vbs ran to completion
Script stderr:

*Does anything have to be done about this? Is the port number 5432 the
correct one to use with Apache, etc?*
