In your specific question:
The easiest thing to do in 1.3 is to right-click General Journal/Reports,
select new window, and enter your criteria. Then you can reload the
report. In 1.4 this is somewhat easier because we have a permalink button
at the bottom of the report, but that's the answer for 1.3.
As for a bookkeeping tutorial, you probably want to do two things:
1. Skim the manual so you know what areas are covered and where they are
covered.
2. Check out Erik's pdf book online at http://book.ledgersmb.org/
This is a work in progress, so it will likely get updated as questions are
asked on the list.
