In Canada all business reporting is done using specific GIFI (General Index of Financial Information (IIRC)) codes. There are different codes for business and farm expenses (for the same expenses). As a result of having used the codes for such a long time frame the standard codes have become somewhat ingrained. On my system I went from 4 digit account codes to 7 digit numbers to allow me to use a far smaller granularity allowing me track costs on specific pieces of equipment where, if I give enough inputs, I can cost even different activities done by the same equipment. So the idea is useful - - - just offering a reason not to rely on the possibilities of what can be quite different resulting in higher costs when one uses accountants! Darald
