I hope it is allowed to offer a somewhat dissenting opinion.

In Canada all business reporting is done using specific GIFI (General Index
of Financial Information (IIRC)) codes. There are different codes for
business and farm expenses (for the same expenses). As a result of having
used the codes for such a long time frame the standard codes have become
somewhat ingrained. On my system I went from 4 digit account codes to 7
digit numbers to allow me to use a far smaller granularity allowing me
track costs on specific pieces of equipment where, if I give enough inputs,
I can cost even different activities done by the same equipment. So the
idea is useful - - - just offering a reason not to rely on the
possibilities of what can be quite different resulting in higher costs when
one uses accountants!
