Bar the BBC summary via YouTube, I didn't see it due to being in wine country but my tuppence worth is: 1) proof - if more were required - that pre season friendlies are for fitness only and not to be used as an indicator of the season to come. 2) Any time I saw Becchio on the box, he's fekkn DESPERATE. So whilst it seems that Rich Walker just picks on him and is overly vindictive, he IS right. 3) It might be the C'ship, but it is a BETTER league than the rubbish we were in so we are just not going to get it easy this year and in fact we will still suffer from "smaller" teams raising their game for The Mighty etc. I have no expectations beyond survival this season, I certainly don't expect us to get even a sniff of the playoffs without Beckford and yet another back four. Again, survival - and only that - should be our only objective this season. 4) Questioning Grayson's transfers - far too early to say yet. Has anyone checked how many of the Blackpool team were his buys and not Holloway's? I'm sure the bulk of the new signings will come good and we'll see that over 10>15 games, not on the first day which is a most unreliable indicator. Still though, we need a striker and a midfielder. Grayson is clearly waiting on Paynter and Somma's fitness, but given that the Prem teams HAVE to trim their squads to 25 players, is he waiting for someone to be banished to the Championship, and if so would we even be able to pay a portion of their wages? As for Papa Smurf and the lack of money, Boro apart, which club has spent any real money in this league? I still think Hull & Pompey will fully self-destruct and I don't see much hope for Scunthorpe without Hooper. Still we'll be better off now that Beckford's gone and banging in a few for Everton - I seriously hope Paynter is good... I was confused by Graysons tactics and buys/loans - some of whom are "old pros" (I can't believe we've bought Collins, a worse CHalf than Lubo) with all the lumbering "get it into touch" mentality that that brings to mind, while others seem to be nimble, quick acting/thinking ball players - Watt for eg. Contrary to others I quite liked what I saw of Clayton - a couple of sweet little passes that almost came off...he was looking for a mobile forward to play it to...oh, yeah, that's right. Despite all that our worst problem was the defence...garbage all across the back 4...good job Kaspar was on his game...the lack of defensive cover did not help. Wonder if Bruce is any good..?
