My take on the team in general, is that many of the players who were good in
league 1, will obviously be merely adequate at this level, while those who were
adequate last season (Becchio, Collins) will be a bit lacking in this league.

I'll be interested to see if he goes with 4-3-3 or back to 4-4-2 when everyone
is fit, and the transfer window is closed. I can see that 4-3-3 enables us to
play Howson & Kilkenny at the same time in their proper positions. But they
need an extra player in there to stop being overrun. (Go back to that later).

The problem is that it means that lone striker has to be quite an all-rounder,
which Becchio isn't. Paynter has a better scoring record, and is a target man,
but he likes it being played to feet. He has no more pace than Becchio, and is
no better in the air. He has a cracking turn & shot on him though.

The main problems I saw were:-
1. Attacking: Becchio not good enough and I can't really see Somma being the
answer if he wasn't good enough for last season's squad. I think Snodgrass can
be as effective as Commons was, but we need to sign a quality striker to play
alone up front or alongside Paynter.

2. Midfield: Kilkenny was overrun at times in the defensive role. His
positioning defensively not brilliant either. It's games like that, that
highlight why Doyle was important last season. Definitely need a good holding
midfielder, or play Johnson and Kilkenny just in front of the back 4, wth
Howson further forward in the Sneijder role.

3: Defence: Difficult to judge the defence, as the midfield gave them very
little protection. We did present Derby with a lot of chances, but I think
Kisnorbo will shore it up a bit. I thought Connolly looked good, and Bessone
although not brilliant looked no worse that most of the other left back over
the past 5 years, and in a higher league.

In short, Leeds have obviously got a bit to learn at this level, but I think
tehre will be an improvement when Kisnorbo, Snodgrass and possibly Paynter are
fit. With the addition of a couple of players (Striker, defensive midfield),
and a but more experience of this league in general we should be OK. It is very
early days yet.

KOT.
