Becchio is neither as good as some people (and a lot of folk who have never seen him play, as has been said) think, nor as bad as Walker makes him out to be.
He is a striker of limited skills who puts himself about a lot, does a reasonable job at bringing others into the game, gets a few goals, and wins quite a few freekicks. You could say that he is the Emile Heskey of the lower leagues. The individual components of the Becchio package are not brilliant, but the whole is a little bit more than the sum of the parts, and he is somewhat effective. I think his greatest strength is his movement.............and I don't mean the fact that he runs around a lot. I mean that when Killer or Howson have the ball at their feet and glance up, they can see him making a run across a defender to make himself available. As a midfield player myself, I know how valuable that is. I would say in the current economic climate, 750k is about an accurate valuation. Which would I rather have.............Becchio or 750K? Well, since any money we get seems to disappear down Bates's very deep pockets, I guess I would rather have Becchio, but I rather hope that he is sitting on the bench once Paynter &/or Somma are available. _____ From: Mark Tuffey [mailto:[email protected]] To: [email protected], [email protected], [email protected] Sent: Mon, 16 Aug 2010 20:08:01 +0200 Subject: Re: [LU] This will make Rich W's day! Rich, I'm with you on this one as Beechio is awful in the air...and on the ground. I cannot for the life of me understand how anyone can believe he is good enough for this division. I think he's only starting due to our current injury list.
