I remember being told by a Southampton season ticket holder about Beattie many, many moons ago. He was supposedly the greatest player to have broken into their side since Le Tiss. He was going to be the best thing since sliced bread and would take the international stage by storm.
He then proceeded to fizzle out. Always made me think of a poor man's, beer swilling, curry eating Wayne Rooney for some reason, more suited to egg chasing than the beautiful game.
