Subject: Boro scores on the doors from the armchair

His my thoughts on the perfromances:

Brown - 7. Had nowt to do apart from a collect a few shots and a tip over.
Looks

too fat for my liking.

Connolly - 6. Glimpses coming forward in the first 20 minutes but defensively
still suspect. Look at their goal, he is ball watching. If the ball had come
through there was a boro man on the post waiting to tap it in.

Mccartney - 6. Wasn't on long.

Collins - 4. An accident waiting to happen. All Boro's chances came from bad
Collins defending. He just stands off then can't react quick enough. He is a
real problem because Grayson is buidling a defence around him and he isn't good
enough.

Naylor - 4. A yard short for the goal and generally his brain his telling him
to

defend the right way but his legs are not up to it. Ageing fast I'm afraid.

Faye - 6. I thought he had a decent first half and looked ok in the holding
midfielder role but second half he faded badly. Also, he plays the simple ball
which is fine but when Watt went off and Johnson came on we had nobody creating
chances through clever midfield play. I think his fitness levels need to be
20-30% higher ... and now he's injured.

Watt - 8. I thought the tackle on him was criminal and at very least a yellow
card. The bloke took him out. He was our best and most lively player , creating
all sorts of problems. He also was tracking back and defending well. I hope
he's

not badly injured. Much better option on the left than Johnson.

Howson - 6. Again I was disappointed by Howson. You know what he can do, when
he

controls the ball and runs into the area past two defenders with ease you think
bloody hell this kid is good, then next minute he just gives away possession
too

easily and puts the whole team under pressure. Has to improve especially if
he's

playing as the creative midfielder.

Snodgrass - 6. A touch of the Howsons today - some good some bad. Very
frustrating at times when he loses possession or hits a corner to their man on
the near post. I thought like most of the team he was lively first 30 minutes
then faded.

Somma - 7. Lively, good feet, good goal but he needs some service and he didn't
get much today after Watt went off.

Becchio - 7. I'll give him 10 for his 10 minute wonder spell where he scored
with a volley then hit the bar with his wrong foot and then 4 for his general
play throughout the game which was poor. He's too slow, he plods along and
offers nothing to the game. Now I'd like to say that the 10 minute spell is
what

he is all about and that he will get better as a result of this but I think its
unlikely. I felt myself feeling a bit of love for him though when he charged
that ball down (he did miscontrol it first though :)) and then got in the box
to

volley home. Strachan said it was going into the goalie's arms if it hadn't hit
Howson on the way - not sure really , it was a good strike and worthy of a
goal.

Would I pick him next game - no. McCormack and Somma for me.

Subs:

Hughes - 6. Not exposed so we should count ourselves lucky for that.
Johnson - 6. Tried hard.
Bromby - all part of some very negative tactics inthe last 15 minutes. You
can't

blame the manager though especially with our recent results and he got away
with

it.

In general I thought Boro were really poor throughout but still looked the
better side for most of the second half. I thought we were really good first 20
minutes then dropped off. I thought we were really poor second half and were
lucky to win the game. I thought Faye was a big problem second half , I was
watching him and he just wasn't moving and picking up the Boro runners.

Hmph..........so that#s what it was.

Anyway, i have just seen the highlights on the BBC. Really enjoyed Becchio#s
tap-in off the post, and also his 25 yard tap-in which hit the angle.

.............were Sky thinking of putting the Leeds game on at the same time
as Villa v Chelsea?

I went all the way into Munich to Kilian's, only to find they were showing
the

Villa game and some ridiculous rugby match only.

  Grrrr.

Great win, though, even if I didn't see any of it.
