This is a conundrum.

I hate to see teams taking the ball into the corner..................BUT, if it
helps Leeds to win, it's OK by me. But does it help Leeds to win? I offer you
the eternal example of John Barnes...............Liverpool v Arsenal, last game
of season, 1980-something. It was the famous game when anything but a 0-2
result would leave Lpool champions. At 0-1 in the last minute, Barnes got the
ball on the corner of the Arsenal box, facing the touchline. He could have
headed for the corner flag, but instead, he tried to beat his man (which would
have given him a good shooting opportunity), lost the ball.............and Arse
went down the other end to score and win the league.

IMHO attacking = cross the corner into the area, same with free kick etc.,
and of course also free play; and try to get that ball into the net. If we
had scored a goal more, the game would have been buried. The way we did,
when loosing the ball after 10 seconds or so in the corner area, we let them
have the chance on the break...

I didn't say "every" game Mike - but I definitely recall thinking that if
they would just keep pressing an attack instead of letting the opposition
come on to them it would certainly make for a less stressful last 5/10
  minutes for me

Even in the days of the great Don Revie team, I can clearly recall remarking
that the Leeds team have never learnt the truism that the other team cannot
score if you carry on your attack and KEEP THE BALL IN THEIR END OF THE
FIELD by passing it around a lot (preferably to other guys dressed in white)

Damned if you do, damned if you don't? The free kick is cleared, they rush
up the other end and score. And someone else would be complaining "why
didn't we keep it in the corner..."
