I have never seen or heard of a virus infecting a motherboards bios.
If you are removing a virus you may need to go inside a laptop to remove
the hard drive so you can plug it in to another machine. Most modern
laptop HDs can be removed quite easily but some older models do need a
certain amount of dismantling. I recently repaired an old Toshiba and
couldn't believe how much effort I had to go to just to get the hard
drive out.
Still, £150 is a huge amount. It would be cheaper to backup and
re-install Windows.

Has anyone here any experience of a CMOS virus? I have seen a recent
invoice where someone has been charged for this on a Laptop repair and
I think they are taking the piss. Especially as the bill says that
they had to dismantle the laptop to resolve it and then charged
£150...............
