use "nslookup" command to check what the DNS entries resolve as. You can use /hosts file to remedy the problem but that is only a workaround as the problem seems to be DNS related still.
in windows there is indeed a host file. its typically resides in *Windows 95/98/Me: c:\windows\hosts* *Windows NT/2000: c:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\hosts* *Windows XP (Home OR Pro): c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts* *hope this helps. * *Eric* On Mon, Nov 22, 2010 at 9:10 PM, Nigel Barber <[email protected]> wrote: > Macs are exquisitely-wrapped UNIX boxes, so /etc/hosts still works. > > > Nigel. > > > On 22 November 2010 10:07, Errand Fivefold <[email protected] > >wrote: > > > Guys, > > > > I've connected a Mac (at home) to the office network (Windows Server > 2003) > > via VPN. > > I can ping the server and other network devices but DNS doesn't seem to > be > > resolving the names-IP addresses correctly. > > Is there a Mac equivalent of the HOSTS file in Windows? > > > > There apparently had been similar problems with a couple of laptops in > > the past which have been resolved using the HOSTS file with the Server > Name > > and IP address entered manually. > > > > Any advice would be greatly appreciated, > > > > Thanks in hopeful anticipation, > > > > Verner > > _______________________________________________ > > Leedslist mailing list > > Info and options: > > http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist > > To unsubscribe, email [email protected] > > > > MARCHING ON TOGETHER > > > > > > -- > vectoria.co.uk > concentrichron.com > -- > > Mindbrix -- Dream it, draw it, build it, love it > > 69 Derby Street > Beeston > Nottingham > NG9 2LG > > +44 7905 311 352 > [email protected] > www.mindbrix.co.uk > Skype: ntbarber > twitter.com/mindbrix > _______________________________________________ > Leedslist mailing list > Info and options: > http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist > To unsubscribe, email [email protected] > > MARCHING ON TOGETHER > _______________________________________________ Leedslist mailing list Info and options: http://mailman-new.greennet.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/leedslist To unsubscribe, email [email protected] MARCHING ON TOGETHER
