I can't quite believe what I've witnessed over the last couple of weeks. The
display at Burnley, second half particularly, was fantastic enough, but
today was even better. Some of the one-touch passing and movement,
particularly by Howson and Snodgrass was Premiership class today. Two weeks
ago I'd have settled for 2 points from Burnley away and QPR at home and
instead we've got six. Amazing.

QPR were very good today. Whenever we had the ball they closed us down
quickly and made life very difficult and when they had the ball they broke
quickly and with style yet we matched them in every department and as the
game progressed we gradually took the upper hand and eventually outplayed
them comprehensively to finish worthy winners.

We feared the worst when Bruce limped off early doors as a defensive pairing
of Bromby and Collins didn't really inspire confidence but they dealt
competently with virtually everything thrown at them with Bromby playing
particularly well and when QPR did get through Schmeichel coped comfortably
with anything that came his way.

In mid-field Howson and Snodgrass were phenomenal with Gradel not far behind
and Johnson was an absolute revelation today. I can't ever remember seeing
him play so well. The only weak link was Kilkenny who was too often muscled
out of it for comfort and I think if it hadn't been for the disruption of
having to substitute Bruce in the first few minutes he would have been
hooked well before the end.

We'd already come close from a Snodgrass cross met well by Becchio' head and
superbly tipped over by Kenny before another great cross was knocked down at
the far post by Howson and Gradel smashed it past Kenny.

QPR tried hard to get back into it in the second half with Derry being
particularly prominent but we coped well with everything they could produce,
though they seemed to be getting on top a bit as we failed to keep
possession long enough to relieve the pressure they were building. Then a
lovely pass from McCartney set Gradel free to run at them from in his own
half. He twisted and turned the full back, got himself into a great position
and as we all screamed at him to cross it he plonked past Kenny at his near
post. Magic.

They knew it was over then and we proceeded to play more delightful stuff as
we dominated the game. Kenny saved well from Becchio and Snodgrass before
Howson broke through and hit an absolute cracker from the edge of the area
which Kenny saved brilliantly as we all went up to hail the goal.

A thoroughly enjoyable afternoon for all who braved the freezing cold, up to
second in the table and Becchio's signed his new contract!!

Merry Christmas one and all.
